Alex Almeida

Alex leads the firm’s security-focused research on Iraq, Yemen, and the Gulf states. Since joining the company in 2014, he has helped clients understand how armed actors, military institutions, and regional conflict dynamics shape operational risk across the Middle East.
Alex provides strategic assessments of military and paramilitary forces, terrorism and insurgent movements, and defense-sector developments in the MENA region. His work supports energy, infrastructure, and extractive clients seeking to navigate high-risk environments with clarity and confidence.
Before joining Horizon Engage, Alex published extensively on Middle Eastern terrorism and insurgency for the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point and the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. His areas of expertise includes force structure and doctrine, irregular warfare, and strategic trends in regional defense.
Alex holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and History from Georgia State University and an Master’s degree in Military History from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, where his thesis focused on South African mobile warfare doctrine.
